WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING

Medical providers who are central to the process of treating dying patients are often least capable of making the personal connections necessary to accomplish this vital mission. This is not because they lack the intelligence or desire. They lack the experience and the skills. This video format is likely to be a very effective educational tool for these budding professionals.
– Dr. Victor M Sandler, MD
Hospice and Palliative Medicine Physician
Judy bravely and boldly gave me language I can use even in extremis situations to help guide my dying patients towards the end of their lives with the control and dignity they deserve.
– Dr. Jodie Craig, MD
Emergency Medicine
This brave and courageous film gives patients, caregivers and physicians permission and encouragement to embrace end of life conversations in ways that haven’t been talked about much before.
– Screening Guest
Even more important than teaching students science is teaching them how to talk to patients and their loved ones about end of life decisions and care. Kelly’s documentary is a perfect supplement to that vital piece of their education.
– Dr. Michaela Tsai, MD
Medical Oncology/Hematology
Judy’s powerful and moving insights are essential for all healthcare providers – as an affirmation to those who are having these conversations with their patients already, and for those who have the opportunity to use Judy’s recommendations to enhance these meaningful discussions.

The documentary was beautiful and inspiring for me. As a metastatic cancer patient it helped me to see greater perspective on some of the issues that are part of the cancer journey.
Well done and beautiful story.

Living with metastatic breast cancer

“Dying Is Not Giving Up” features conversations between Licensed Psychotherapist Kelly Grosklags and her patient, Judy Erdahl, who was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Knowing that her time was nearing an end, Erdahl describes to Grosklags the very human experience of dying, from first learning about her terminal diagnosis to what she hopes her death will be like. Together along with Erdahl’s family, friends and oncologist, new perspectives are shared in hopes of making a patient’s care more personal and meaningful. “Our hope is that we can teach medical providers to approach difficult conversations about patient care with more empathy, respect, and compassion.” says Grosklags.
